A Day in the Life of a Virtual Assistant

I’m often asked what a Virtual Assistant does.

 

Virtual Assistants come in many guises and usually have their own specialities such as social media, transcription and call handling. For me, I’m not that different to a Personal Assistant who works in a regular office in terms of the tasks I undertake, however, all my work is done remotely, which gives me the freedom to work from anywhere I choose as long as there is electricity and Wi-Fi. However, as a Freelancer, I also have all the elements of running my own business to add to the list. So in addition to a day of tasks for my clients, I also have my own business administration to get sorted

 

My day starts and ends with all the other things that come with running a business: marketing, accounts control, budgeting, IT, networking, social media, customer service, web updates, writing blog articles and every in between.

 

So putting aside all the business elements that come with being self-employed, what does my ‘day job’ look like? Well here goes:

 

 

Diary management:  confirming appointments, re-booking appointments, amending appointments, venue booking, booking train tickets, booking flights, booking hotels, booking AirBnB venues, planning travel routes, booking event tickets

 

Proofreading: documents, presentations, marketing materials, blog articles, websites, brochures, booklets, contracts, reports

 

Administration: reading and responding to emails, setting up filing systems, filing paperwork, shredding paperwork, scanning, online research, data entry, copy typing, direct mail, presentations

 

Event Management: researching and booking venues, choosing menus, theming, despatching invitations, dealing with RSVPs, researching and booking entertainment, guest lists, seating plans, place cards, photographers, transport

 

Lifestyle Management: finding tradesmen, sourcing and despatching gifts, sourcing household items, dealing with house sales, charity shop donations, setting up home offices, gift concierge, gift wrapping, organising collections and deliveries, photo books, project management

 

Obviously, I don’t complete all the above tasks every day but depending on which clients I’m working for, I can certainly work my way through most of them! And I definitely know that I’m going to have a varied day…
