New Year - What's Your Resolution?

As a New Year starts, many people think about things they’d like to change in their lives and make resolutions to stick to their goals of change or self-improvement. The origin of making New Year's resolutions rests with the Babylonians, who reportedly made promises to the Gods in hope that they would earn good favour in the coming year.

The Top 10 New Year Resolutions are:

  1. Lose weight

  2. Exercise more

  3. Quit smoking

  4. Quit drinking

  5. Get out of debt

  6. Enjoy life more

  7. Spend more time with the family

  8. Help others

  9. Learn something new

  10. Get organised

Following the festive season, it’s no wonder that the first half of the list is front of mind due to over-indulging for more than a week which leaves us with a strong feeling to get healthy. Improving our finances also comes as no surprise due to the additional expenditure most people encounter in the run up to Christmas.


The latter half of the list transpires because Christmastime highlights people and circumstances that are not as fortunate as our own, giving us a stronger appreciation of what we do have and how we can improve our own situation as well as that of others.
